Heartlands is the inaugural exhibition at Down Stairs, a new contemporary art gallery for Herefordshire located at Great Brampton House. Heartlands brings together fourteen artists united by their interest in the countryside and its relationship to British national identity.
Taking the landscape tradition and turning it on its head, the exhibition is a bold attempt to reinstate ‘the landscape’ as a primary concern of contemporary practice. In this attempt, the curators have drawn on work from a group of emerging artists in the field, placing their works in context and in dialogue with that of their more established counterparts.
Gallery opening hours:
27th May-5th June every day 12–5pm.
6th June-31st July Wednesday to Sunday 12–5pm or by appointment.
